Welcome to Hector’s Books
Hector M. Rodriguez has spent his life protecting and enhancing the Earth’s future, as a member of our Armed Forces, then as an environmental warrior at some of America’s most sensitive Government facilities. As a geologist in the 1980s, worked pioneering groundbreaking strategies focused at protecting America’s groundwater.
He has spent decades shaping environmental policy at the U.S. Dept. of Energy. He is a self-described disruptive boomer defying stereotypical bureaucratic mind sets. This is evident is in everyday life activities and achievements. When he’s not working to save the planet, he’s writing award winning books, playing guitar and mandolin, hiking long distance trails, biking across the country, leading Scouts on life changing adventures, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
As he “plays” he dreams up his speculative fiction and historical fiction stories. He ponders character development, intertwining both the awkwardness and messiness of forged interpersonal relationships in unique historical settings. Scattered in a universal way, he blazes a starred array of speculative stories about his life. His collection of books is a detailed epic of the best speculative literature, cross genre writings for our time. His sagas spanning time immemorial, the wisdom and humor from his prose seeps out like Tupelo honey.
“The Path Taken” opens a world of great change at a time in our history when we balked at prosperity and the technologies. His travel writing and story collections of favorite stories, his fresh prose and humorous sometime self-depreciating slant on life provides for authentic relationship building with his readership. His unique ability to understand and explain modern and contemporary cultural observations provides for literature of surreal personal narratives and unique speculative explorations.
In his mystery novella “What Happened to Joe French?” with his proclivity to construct a true-life mystery, a story puzzle embedded with mysterious clues and a mind-bending prize. Rodriguez plays with timelines and twists rivaling Carlos Zafons’ literary mysteries set in Barcelona. He has created a completely unique historical puzzle. Through painstaking research and extremely careful use of words and book related figures, Rodriguez embeds thirty-three clues into the narrative of the novella. The twist? He will award a two-pound treasure of gold ingots to the puzzle solver. The rules of the quest are hidden in-between the lines. Clues are hidden in plain sight.
His epic tale “A Story”, peels back early human evolution, consciousness, and a vision of prehistoric fiction based on volumes of archeological data lanced together by legends of our scared past. Rodriguez proposes early human consciousness and profound awareness. The story is a first love, a bittersweet squeeze of evolution.
Hector M. Rodriguez is a thought provoking writer enabling us to reflect on ourselves.
